Beneteau Inspection Hatches on Water Tanks

We have a 2003 Beneteau 411 and cannot get the hatches open. They are stuck fast. The boat did not come with a proper key for these hatches either which makes it difficult, and we do not appear to be able to source one anywhere. Does anyone have any tips on how to open these please? The lid has an indented cross on the top which a key would slot into. We have cut a piece of laminated wood to fit and tried turning it but it won't budge. A solution would be very much appreciated as we have been unable to inspect our water tanks and there could be a monster in there and we would not know!

Have you asked Beneteau to provide the proper key? If you are in N. America, I would call their South Carolina facility. Someone on the staff there should be able to help you.

Re: Beneteau Inspection Hatches on Water Tanks

Thanks to those who contributed their wisdom. We approached the Beneteau Agent in Marina di Ragusa, Sicily who advised us that Beneteau do not provide a key for the inspection hatches... great!

So we tried pouring boiling water on and using our home made key and hey presto we have success! Thank you for that suggestion - it worked!
