Beneteau 57

I'm interested to know the thoughts ref this boat. Are there any owners on here? Anyone that has delivered one? Or live on one?
What it is like to sail ?
Is it considered a blue water cruiser with the likes of Hylas or Amel?
Some people say that it is one of the best boats that Beneteau ever made, would you agree?
Any particular problems that are associated with this model?
They seem to hold their value well and are well equipped, would this boat be manageable for short handed sailing ie man and wife.

Personally the more I look at them the more beautiful I find them, they look well thought out and still look quite modern for a 12 year old design.

Cheers.

Never met it, but a center cockpit 57 with 17,000 pounds ballast had better be blue water - it isn't exactly a bay boat. The only questions in my mind from the specs are the 127 gallons of fuel for a 160 HP engine - that's not much if you seriously need it (not over 250 miles), and whether the running rigging is well suited to your goal of a two person crew.

Yes. They are decent boats. A friend of ours sailed one as a hired gun and I had a long look at the boat he drove.

I have seen one exported to AUS about 6 mths ago too.

None of the skippers had any negative comments (one had about 2 years experience, the other was just after a 6 mths intensive refit).

Cheers,

If you want a Hylas or Amel you buy a Hylas or Amel.

'Everything' is diffefent from Amel to Bene. These are not built for the same niche.

Re: Beneteau 57

While I agree with "barnakiel", I believe the Bene 57 is probably the best Bene ever built.

Bene tried to compete with Hylas, Amel, HR and the like and put loads of cash into each boat; that said, the market did not react very favorably. Rumours... Bene apparently lost 100's of K on each one sold...

If you have the money for a Hylas or Amel then of course buy one but as a substitute its worth considering.

Would you choose centre or console helm?

Re: Beneteau 57

If you look at the askings at yachtworld you can doubt they lost a single penny selling them. They are not cheap boats s/h at all.

There are also quite many on the market which implies they sold many.

Re: Beneteau 57

I have a beneteau 57 (5yrs) and I am happy with it. It is well manufactured with all the equipment used on the (so claimed) better blue water cruisers. Before I purchased mine I have been on many makes and did not see the difference to justify the extra costs. Most of the time I sail with my wife, for easier handling while berthing I fitted a stern thruster. We are not live aboards but been on the boat for long stretches and had experiences with the weather. It sails and rides well.
