Re: Beneteau 38

It's not there. Could it be regionally restricted somehow? I'm in Sweden.
If you could invite me (johan.hook on FB), that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Beneteau 38

We are based in Sardinia, Italy and use a water filter at the point where water is taken into the boat. It is surprising how sandy and brown the filter becomes. This is washed under the tap and quickly restored to its original, prestige White. Inboard, for drinking water, in the galley, we have a Seagull AquaPur water filter with its own tap tee-pieced off the main tap in the sink. We bottle this and put it in the fridge. The water is delicious and completely safe from cysts, bacteria and loads of other stuff. We don't have to haul huge packages of water bottles, leaving us free to haul just beer and wine instead! I highly recommend both systems.

The full name of the FB group is: "Beneteau Oceanis 38 Sailboat Owners". Johan I believe I've sent you an invite, but if you could search for this group and let me know if you can find it I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Re: Beneteau 38

Here at Annapolis show (fantastic weather) and close to a final decision on a new Oceanis 38! We spent the final hours of the first day VIP show comparing/contrasting the new Oceanis 35 to the 38, and even going back and forth to the Jeanneaus. The 38 continues to stand out as best serving my FL coastal cruising needs.

Re: Beneteau 38

How did you like the 35? It's hard to tell the size difference in photos.

Re: Beneteau 38

One difference for me is the option of a swing keel on the 35. The new oceanis 35 is a damned nice boat but its a bit confusing as the price point is so close to the 38. With only $20K USD difference, why not go with the 38?

It is almost identical except smaller dimensions. I stood on the front edge of the intersection of coach roof and bow deck of the 38 and sighted the same location on the 35 in the adjacent sllip as both models were tied stern-to the same T dock. It appeared to me the major difference is the distance from that point to the forward tip of the bow. Its impact is a shortened forward berth. The forward berth on the 35 is useless to me as it is too short. On the 38, that same forward berth is almost a full double and would be my preferred place to sleep.

Re: Beneteau 38

Completely concur regarding price. Remember that you are paying for a slip forever, so you might as well make it worthwhile.

The forward Berth is where my wife and I sleep. I'm 6'5" and she is 5'11"-- plenty of room for both of us.

Also, I'm not sure why the 35 is called a 35 when its LOA is 32...

Re: Beneteau 38

Congrats on the new boat. Just out of interest how much more was the 41 going for?

I recently skippered one for two weeks and was very impressed by it. Completely different set up to the 38 internally however with galley etc. One thing I noted was a slight tendency to round up when the breeze got lively, even using both reefs. It was however the shoal draft version and I believe the 38 has twin rudders which should help. Was a bit surprised that the larger boat went for only the single.

Would be interested to hear how you get on.
