Re: Benetau 38 options selection help needed

A couple of suggestions:

Prop: do not go for a folding prop, get a feathering prop, i.e. a Max Prop, the difference in performance is like chalk and cheese, especially when going astern and worth a knot or more when going ahead.

Look at upgrading deck cleats, standard are "ok" but heavy duty cleats make more sense and give peace of mind.

p.s. I also have a Beneteau.

stock inverter used for anything else besides microwave?
The inverter you ae describing is 230 volts 50hz and will not power North American appliances. An inverter can be useful but you will want a 120V 60hz one.

Re: Benetau 38 options selection help needed

Congrats on the new boat. Beneteau builds solid boats.
I have a few opinions.
Inner headstay. Don't bother unless you will be doing extensive off shore work. Still you can work the entire wind range and wind angle without it.
Folding prop: Yes, a geared type that does not require setting the drive shaft position to fold it. Especially in the Chesapeake where you will be praying for wind and another knot of boatspeed some days. Also, the sound of a constantly spinning prop in annoying, especially in lighter air.

I've been pricing up the new B38 and B45 and their dealer options..and holy cow are they super expensive compared to buying after-market. However, very convenient to have them pre-installed. (also, don't assume Beneteau's warranty covers what you think it covers. Read that warranty agreement carefully).
