Beaching a small centerboard boat

I've been sailing an 18' Marshall catboat that has a centerboard. I've been considering beaching it on a sand beach instead of anchoring off. Is this a good idea?

I have a mutineer 15 that we pull up on the sand all the time. One thing I would recommend is a protective strip down center of the hull for at least the front 1/4 of the hull. I found ours at bass pro but I would imagine they would be available at most marine stores.

Be aware of your tides - you can return to just a beach and no boat. Other than that, there is no reason you can't beach a your cat. The boat does weigh more than you think so it's not an easy thing to do. Misc waves from passing motorboats etc can cause some damage to the bottom if your not careful.
