Re: Bavaria 33 <3

Does anyone have direct experience of the boat? The reviews of it seem very positive and it seems like a very nice boat to me.

I realise people may not like the manufacturer, but that does mean that the boat is a bad one.

Don't ever remember a 'Bad Review' on a mass production boat in Boating magazines... the loss of advertising revenue would be to much...

What boatman meant to say was: "no, I have no experience with this boat"

(I'm a professional translator)

What Boatie actually said was... don't believe everything you read or you could end up with a Thalidomide Child...
There's professional translators... then there's you...

That's an odd answer. It doesn't even address beverley's question. If (s)he believed everything (s)he read, (s)he wouldn't be seeking a 2nd opinion.

Well.... most folk would have the intelligence to know that meant don't take anyone else's opinion (including mine) or experience as Gospel...
We've enough problems in the world because of blind faith in others opinions... I've been on Bendi's and Bavaria's and to me the Bendi is a better boat... but having said that I've bought the USA equivalent of a Bavaria... everyone said my H37c could not cross the Atlantic... the brand is widely ridiculed yet she managed the crossing just fine..
If your to lazy to get of yer butt and find out yourself... and just rely on the opinion of others... fine... its your life.... your choice..

Like you choosing to be a Troll...

HI Beverly,

I had a Bavaria 33 2007 model. Sailed it for 4 years. I was a very good boat. Seaworthy and generally sailed well. Not a racer or anything near it, but a good solid boat, went to weather at about 43 degrees, and ours handled even very bad weather quite well.

Lot's of comfort built in and on the 2007 models the workmanship was ok.

Having said all that, Bavarias are not a blue water boat, even though quite a few have gone RTW. They are designed more for coastal sailing and many consider them to be a floating holiday home.

Would I buy another? Well, I'm going RTW so I needed a larger boat and one more suitable for that. But if you are coastal sailing, and like your creature comforts, it is a good boat.

Just don't think you are going to outrun anybody, they are not a fast boat.

Well, I am not a racing type nor do I expect to sail the Roaring Forties and I appreciate comfort in my boat.

Thank you!

I actaully agree with Boatman. ( It's happened before, once or twice too! ) The boat magazine reviews are generally pure fluff and passive advertising, not to be confused with a Consumer Reports type of review. I would better adhere to reviews coming from actual sailors and owners of said boat, before believing anything in a advertising based revenue read.
But then having worked in publishing for umpteen years I can speak on both ends. And yes, do not believe everything you read in newsprint or magazines. Follow the money trail and you will see why. Tasty this popcorn, must be Orville's!

Which is why I asked if anyone with DIRECT EXPERIENCE of the boat could comment.

Did a Bavaria murder your parents? You can't let go.

Actually I would agree with boatman in general I would rate Jeaneaux -Benny -Bav in order of quality , but the basic Bav isn't a bad boat and stands up to the demands made on it. Northern European waters ain't for the faint hearted.

And i'm totally okay with that. If I chose a boat with unlimited money, it wouldn't be Bavaria, nor a 33 footer. What I like about this boat considers a few factors that suits me.
