My goodness, LS! Hardly a day goes by that someone doesn't tell us how beautiful our IP is! She lives out back of our condo and one time when we had to take her to the yard for some work, many of the folks who live in our building kept asking us when she was coming back. They said that they loved looking at her when she was docked here.

In fact, at the yard, many people told us how nice she is. But then again, we keep her all waxed and polished up. Perhaps, that made the difference. Haha!

I have to admit, however, she does look a lot better in the water than on the hard.

I was kind of playing to the gallery with my response to your comment since I don't think I am familiar with your wife.
Cheers!

I stand corrected then. There are yachts for all tastes and inclinations.

Haha! So true! BTW, I dearly love yawls; especially the older ones with that beautiful shear.

Well I hope we enjoy looking at the IP31. We just wired the money to close the sale on one. We'll be cruising about August 1st of this year. We start in the Charlotte Harbor area and see where the wind takes us.

Yep, none better than Ta Shing. Too bad they only build mega yachts now.

Wow is right, just thinking of maintaining all that wood.

Re: Baba 30 / 35 vs. Island Packet 31 / 32

We looked at a Baba 30 in Daytona Beach. We love the salty little buggers, but I just didn't fit in it. The nav station was small even for Brenda and the head was tiny. Wish we could afford the Baba 35, but it just isn't going to happen. The IP 31 fits us well and looks good to our eyes.

I have table that is 200 years old and you can see your face in it(an ever harder thing to see) and just requires a wipe with a house hold furniture polish every few days.

On balance I would go for the IP as well. Great choice. The only sensible choice really between the two.

Interior wood.. if teak, is easy. Both boats should be great. I'll take the IP exterior and the B30 interior!

Re: Baba 30 / 35 vs. Island Packet 31 / 32

Great choice! Did you ever go to 'sailboatdata.com' to compare similar boats?
Gives you most information needed to compare among many boats.
I was in a similar situation as you some time ago and compared the Island Packet ( my favorite choice among the many others), with the Morgan Out Island 33.
The OI 33 being very similar to the IP; very well built heavy hand laid hull, roomier than most any other boat up to the 35's, draft of less than 4 feet, long keel with hung rudder, comfortable motion at sea, large diesel with hydraulic steering and smooth transmission, amazing storage space, largest V-berth, simple sailing rig, easy maintenance and to repair anything, wide uncluttered decks,....and a tremendous value at under $20k. The price cost you pay is at resale time.
Most people repeat what they have heard...., that the Out Islands are slow and that they don't point well without actually trying them out.
OK, a bit slow compared to a very narrow fin keel racer, ...yes, just a half of a knot or so in light air or if trying to pinch the wind with older blown out sails. The 50 HP diesel will punch trough the slow goings to windward in a chop and charge the batteries and make for a hot shower at the best spot at the anchorage while you wait for the others.
Compare the hull dimensions of the very nice IP you just bought, even the IP35 and will see how similar they are, yet, people do not consider the Island Packets to be as slow as the Out Islands.
You made a very nice choice, and it's prettier too, with very good joinery below. Congratulations, be safe and enjoy it!!.
