Anyone Have an S2 ?

My husband and I just purchased a 77 S2 8.0 B Sloop and are very happy. We haven't put her in the water yet but are curious how many other S2 people there are?

Re: Anyone have an S2?

Many years ago a friend of mine had an S2 6.8. We had a blast with that boat. I'm kicking round the idea of buying one now since my large boat will be on the hard for some time under refit. I figure it would be nice to be able to go sailing after a hard days work in the bilge or engine space.

I've got a lead on one now, Just waiting to hear back from the fellow.

Keep looking they're out there. Looks like there were 426 made. That a pretty good production run for a sailboat.

Re: Anyone have an S2?

we still sail a 7.3 with OMC Saildrive engine in Ohio. enjoy it very much. We have a "hinge" plate to sway the mast up, how does the 8.0 deal with mast raising?

Re: Anyone Have an S2 ?

The previous owner has a wooden contraption built that he stepped the mast with himself but we are having the Marina help us do it the first time and going from there

I've a S2 9.2C (center cockpit). Vintage 1978. It's in great shape considering the age but I've put a lot of sweat equity into her. The final big job is one I don't know how to begin, which is to re-wire the entire 12v system. Anyone have thoughts to share please?

Re: Anyone Have an S2 ?

Hi, I haven't tackled this yet. I will offer that I have come to like my book "Boat Owners Mechanical and Electrical Manual" by Nigel Calder. This book is filled with information - starts with electrical. I usually go here first for anything, and it tells me enough background to formulate a plan of attack - or a plan of research.

Re: Anyone Have an S2 ?

I have a 1980 S28.0B that I am bringing back to life. She sat floating for three years not being cared for. Inside seems to be in great shape other than needs new cushions made. Top side, the deck may have a soft spot, not sure yet. Bottom is getting new barrier coat and paint, OMC Saildrive needs impeller and gas tank cleaned before tiring to start, fingers crossed. If the OMC needs major repair, I'm changing to electric Saildrive power.
I really like the lay out of the S2, with just updating the interior cushions with ultra leather and ultra suede, (vinyl & micro fiber) she will look more modern.
