Any interest in boat search tool?

I built myself a web app to aid in my boat search quest and have been considering opening it up to the public.

Description:
Over time I have built a list of boats I would be interested in purchasing if they show up for the right price and in a semi-convenient location. However, I was spending far too much on yachtworld typing in my queries one-by-one.

This app performs the queries for me once a day, collects the data, and displays it clearly and simply along with a map view of where each boat is located. I can see my queries and add/modify/delete them with a few clicks.

Before I do the work of opening it up, I wanted to see if there would be any interest in having this tool available?

Re: Any interest in boat search tool?

Sounds like a great tool to have, as long as there is sufficient room for details about the boat wanted.

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve but how I test my web toys I just make them available, publish the links for people to test and play, and I count the clicks.

I like your idea and would like to play with it.

Link?

Free tip: do not ASK people what they think, watch what they DO.

Re: Any interest in boat search tool?

Yachtworld.com does have a search notification tool, but only for their site. It would be great to have a tool that includes Craigslist, Boat Trader, etc. Love to try it. Dave

I built something like this (a boat search engine) a few years ago, including as many of the big players as I could search automatically, including all of the above, by their API, by RSS feed, or by scraping.

I didn't proceed past some testing with friends because the legalities scared me off. All of the sites clearly stated that automated searching, scraping etc, and republishing were against their terms of use.

Of course we now have sites like Trivago which searches the other hotel sites... so maybe searching the search engines is no longer an issue?

Re: Any interest in boat search tool?

Yes, that kind of app would be useful. I'm not sure how large the market is, but at least it would be useful to many.

The app might include some of the following features:
- presents all ads of one boat (in multiple sites) together
- tells when the price of some interesting boat has changed
- alerts the user when there is some new info
- clearly separates boats that the user has already seen and has not seen yet
