pirate Annapolis Sailing Initiative...asks a question

What would make a sailing program striving to help people compromised by drugs, alcohol, and other disabling conditions achieve success where other types of programs fail?
I am starting a non-profit to teach disadvantaged people how to sail using a 36' ketch and will have to write a narrative to the IRS seeking approval of non-profit status.
I know that sailing is the best way to build character but need your help in explaining why.
Please help me!
Steve

There’s already a similar program in Annapolis — CRAB (Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating | The Joy of Sailing). Seems to be successful. You might want to pose your questions to them. There’s also a couple of sailing programs for youth offenders, described in this article: Eight juvenile offenders to set sail across the Atlantic | Eye On Annapolis

Re: Annapolis Sailing Initiative...asks a question

How about the way that, for many of us, sailing completely fills your senses. Personally, sailing brings me back to center. Doing it or just thinking about it helps me to look at my priorities, what is going on and how that balances against my need to experience being by an ocean, or sailing a boat on that ocean. It could be any large body of water. Could be any size boat. There is something elemental about that attraction. All of us have an experience of it. Some of us actually have the skills to control its power to our own desires (sailing a boat on water).
