Anchor- 44lb spade/rocna vs 55lb Lewmar delta
Hi all:
We recently lost our CQR during a storm and are looking to replace it on our Morgan OI 41 before an upcoming Key West to Exuma cruise.
It appears I can get a 44 spade for the same price as 55lb delta.
They both seem to be strong anchors but I wanted to see if anyone here had experience with the 11lb weight difference vs Stronger holding.
Cheers
Paul

Had a 55 Delta for 7 years on my CSY 33. Replaced it with a 44 Rocna for another 6 years.
The Rocna held better and set faster than the Delta.
Also had Rocna 22s and 33s on smaller boats. Love the Rocna..
(I know you asked about Spade, but check out other new generation anchors as well.)

Personally I wouldn't touch the delta, go the spade, excell or mantus.

I don't know what the prices are currently but the Mantus had been the best deal of all the anchors and in my opinion works the best. As you probably know we had 50 mile an hour winds in Key West Harbor three weeks ago hear it my boat never moved an inch

Re: Anchor- 44lb spade/rocna vs 55lb Lewmar delta
The Spade, by a large margin. I haven't tried every anchor, but none of the ones I have tried have measured up to the Spade. That will be the first upgrade when I get my own liveaboard. But it is a very personal opinion/ preference, much like religion or politics.
I agree with uncle bob, check out the videos of anchors setting thread. See the differences and choose what's best for you.

Re: Anchor- 44lb spade/rocna vs 55lb Lewmar delta
Thanks guys. I don’t have a windlass so 11lb lighter sounds good to me.
Motion30 - my boat has been sitting in garrison mooring field for the last couple of months. With that wind you describe, she chaffed through 3 - 3/4in lines on the mooring and ended up beached on the military base. That’s a great phone call to get at 6am in TN.
Anyway, that’s the story of how I lost my previous anchor.

Has anyone seen this anchor before? Seller doesn’t know brand but it looks like a mantis or original Rocna.

Looks like an earlier model Rocna with the rock slot. Had one and replaced it with an Excell.
Or mabee an older Manson.

It's a Manson supreme. A Rocna wannabe. I had a delta for years and it was worthless. Got a Rocna and never dragged again.

Re: Anchor- 44lb spade/rocna vs 55lb Lewmar delta
I have been using a 44 lb spade for the past 5 years, and have been through some serious blows with it. By far, the best anchor I’ve ever used. I like to say “it’s like being crazy glued to the bottom.” 👍

Re: Anchor- 44lb spade/rocna vs 55lb Lewmar delta
Paul, I agree with others that the smaller Spade will be a better anchor than the larger Delta. However, your question implies that your boat could comfortably manage a larger anchor.
I would suggest every time the wind is howling at anchor you may regret not paying slightly more for the next size Spade. The S120 is 55 lb, the same weight as the Delta you are considering.
