An innocent question about Cape Dory 36's

I am in the market for a bluewater boat and often consider CD36's.
There are several near where we live and a couple for sale.

My innocent question is;

If the CD36 is such a sought after bluewater cruiser then why haven't I been able to see one heavily equipped for long distance cruising?

Solar panel stands, wind generators, epirb etc

Thanks

Most people don't cruise long distance. What you see is what you can find. The boats are well suited to it even if someone has not chosen to do it. As with any older boat you need to check them out with a proper survey. Boats are not based on a reputation - they are what they are. Some are well cared for and maintained. If you found a good one it would be worth the effort to check out.

You might also look at the Robinhood 36 if you are looking for a newer boat. Robin Hood bought the CD36 mold and continues to make the same boat...but much nicer and customized at a much higher price. BOTH boats are great and go anywhere vessels.

Thank you,
There is a 1981 cd 36 for sale in my neighborhood for $78,000 and one much better for sale on craigslist rhode island for $59,000.
I called the broker on the local boat today and asked them "why" the price of $78,000 and they gave me some sales bull. The boat has been sitting there forever and looks like a coral reef.
