Alternatives to Yachtworld.com?

Dear all,

I am - like many others - looking for the perfect blue water cruiser (in the 40-46 ft range). Do you know of alternative sites to Yachtworld.com that might have boats not offered there....?

If nothing there, try entering the boat make and "for sale" in the search engine. It should bring up a number of choices.

I like eBay Motors, go to search and type in "sailboat," after that shows you a few then check the block "title and description" and you'll get a lot more. Once you've completed that then search "sail boat" and you'll get some different listings and some the same.
I check it once a day just to see what is posted new.

Yachtworld is where you'll find all the commercial brokerage boats. Only a broker can list on Yachtworld. You can also check magazines and the associated web sites. It helps if you have an idea of what you are searching for. Yachtworld isn't a bad place to look at pictures and study different boats.

Yo Jens,

your profile does not show your area, but if you were on the west coast of the U.S. for example, you would pay very special attention to "Latitude 38", "San Diego Log", and others depending on your search center and radius. And particularly to the local "throwaway" boating rags found in specific harbors.

Buying a yacht in a far distant harbor is not to be undertaken lightly. Unless one is free to travel, with no other commitments, it is wise to at first limit your search.

Focusing your search on areas easy to access from your home is desirable. Launching your own inflateable boat can provide access to all the yachts in a harbor, and increase the chances of finding a boat "for sale by owner". Looking at a list of specifications and a few photos is one thing--being down there among the boats will give you an immediate and intimate communication with each boat. And you will meet new friends who might help you. The worst that can happen is they'll invite you out for a sale.

To the degree which you perform the due dilligence will you be rewarded with one of the greatest feelings in the world--the satisfaction of knowing you have bought the right boat.

sailboatlistings.com I looked at it a lot in the past when shopping and i have been getting the best response from there with the boat i have for sale.

We've been all over the place looking for alternatives to YW and almost every time we find a boat on another site, it's also listed on YW. The only exceptions are FSBO on Sailboatlistings.

One thing we found about Sailboatlistings is there are boats that have already been sold but are still listed there as for sale. A couple of brokers we talked to said they have been trying to get the listing removed but with no luck. One said a boat that's still listed for sale, was sold in March and they have been trying ever since to remove the listing.

I found that to be the case too but.............

It is a good one for FSBO.

Maybe I suggest it because it helped me sell mine sans broker.
