You should have room for a small quarter berth on each side. Who will be sleeping in the boat? Even in the dinette, if you lower the table for a double berth, it will be a tight fit. Personally I think it is a better use of space to keep the interior as it was originally designed and make the table easily moveable to serve alternate layout desires. I would consider moving the galley forward to allow for quarter berths if you wanted them. I'd also build a comfortable removable seat for the companionway, tiller extension and a good dodger to satisfy the desire for another "helm station." My old Columbia 24 had a forward window I could look out of while I stood inside the cabin, steered and made coffee... a mini pilot house! I also rebuilt the mast support arch on mine recently, you can check my albums for photos. It is bomb-proof, but I keep bumping my head on it! Plan on a cushion on it!
The use of the boat will be for two persons, but we want relatively high comfort when using the boat. Having the setup as is it is is out of question.

Re: albin vega interior

My idea it to find two good chairs to put on starboard side and a nice kitchen on port side (ikea). Any suggestions for chair or kitchen is welcome. Please note the the steering position is replaced by high chairs. I will also make a sleeping quarter aft on starboard (where the kitchen and locker in cockpit used to be). Need suggestions for good chairs especially, but also for a good kitchen. also need suggestions for how to insulate the boat without going bankerupt.

Re: albin vega interior

Many have asked what the boat will be used for. The answer is that it will be used for sailing up until two persons for up to one week , but mostly for one day cruises. The emphasis is therefor on comfort, not on sleeping. If I can not find comfortable seats, that I like, for starboard side, I might use it for storage. I will keep you posted. Today I have launch of another boat, that I will use for the rest of the summer.

It is a fine layout if you do not want to sail long passages.

Probably I will not go for very many long passages, but I have been thinking of a small trip to Scotland. I do not see any big drawback with my solution. I will get more storage in the kitchen part of the mod, and less storage due to my sleeping arrangement in the back. I total the storage will be approximately the same. Number of seats in cabin will be reduces from 6 to 2, but I will never use this boat for more than 2 persons anyway. The idea of using car seats came from the fact that I have these seats for sale now, and that they are comfortable to sit in, however the color is a bad match with how Im planning the rest of the interior, so it will probably not be these exact seats, I do however think that car seats might be a good way to go. When I googled "black sailboat interior" nothing relevant came up, so integrating black chairs will probably be too much of a challenge. I do however think that good seats is important for comfort, so I will put some effort in to finding something useful. Maybe this seat from ikea

MELLBY Lenestol - Dansbo mørk grå - IKEA

could be used. It is 78cm wide and 85cm deep, so I think it might fit in, but I'm not sure. Plan is of course to use two of them in a dinette setup. Building a chair is also an alternative, but its very difficult to make something that looks and feels like a "normal" chair, but if anyone has any idea of how that can be done, I'm open for suggestions.

Also I'm not sure what side I will put the kitchen, and what side I will put my aft sleeping place. The intake for diesel on starboard side might be a factor, or it might be easy to work around. Water intake on starboard side might also suggest putting kitchen to starboard side.

I have never seen anyone doing heavy modifications to the vega, if someone knows about anyone, I'm interested.

Happy sailing

Yes, window layout is changed, to give it a more modern look.

The boat is also painted, with black hull and withe deck. I think it looks good, now its only the small challenge of making the most of the interior that remains.
