Nosireee the westsail 32 is a great boat, if you can get it get it, built strong, cutter rigged is allows you to get to the foredeck and you can hardly hear the baby, Dont get me wrong IT IS GREAT TO HAVE INFANTS ON BOARD I GREW UP IN A HOMEMADE HAMMOCK ON A FISHING VESSEL IN THE NORTHSEA> MY KID GREW UP IN A SIMILAR HAMMOCK IN GEORGIAN BAY ( summer only) AND MY 10 MONTH OLD GRANDSON WAS IN THE SAME HAMMOCK THIS YEAR So im with you but I still cant type Ole

I got my Cheoy Lee, closely meeting your requirements, for quite a bit less than you have budgeted.

Always wanted a Norsea, but couldn't afford any that were available at the time.

Not heavy enough? And almost all will have inboard diesel engines . . .

There are so many boats under $30k on the East Coast I would think it would be tough to pick one. C&C 35? Erickson 35? Pearson Alberg 35? C&C 38? Bristol 39? Islander 36? C&C 33? Tartan 33? Pearson 33? Contest 33? Allied Luders? Pearson Vanguard? C&C 32? Irwin Citation? Cal 31? Sabre 30?

Lots of good old boats that are tough as nails for you to look at.

Sizing of a prop is always a consideration. On the Mac's with the 50 hp bigfoot, There is 2 basic props, on for speed and one for thrust (sp?). It does make a differance at the dock. However, all of these boats move the motor when steering. This does help quite a lot. The bigger motor does help correct my mistakes.

One can always check the prop pitch and size to see what can be done to help what every you want to do.

A very late response to Talbots suggestion of a High Thrust prop. I went to my local chandlery and was told that the Merc Big Foot can't take the equivelent of a High Thrust prop. Merc has its own solution to the going astern problem which is nice and cheap, something that reduces cavitation but it won't fit on a Big Foot prop.
