Good on you mate! The bow is faintly reminiscent of the "Blue Dolphin" She should be a goer. Fair winds and a broad reach for your crossing. I'm stuck with a stink boat.

Originally designed for under 30 knot winds and day-sails. Good luck with the weather Boatie.

So she's as good as a Hunter or Bene 331 then...??
Anyway.. she's being sailed by a coward and not being raced so all should be good..

Correct; the Sporthafen is optimum. That was built for the '72 Olympics, by the way. Kiel is a very nice town and be sure to have a good wander if you have time there. Provisioning is carp, however -- you will need a taxi, or borrow a bike from the Hafenmeister. Nothing in a reasonable walking distance. Or just wait until you get to Cuxhaven; there there is an excellent Real hypermarket in walking distance.

Have fun! Great trip, although the time of year is starting to present a risk of hairy weather.

BTW, be careful if you're going between the TSS lanes from Helgoland -- there is a giant wind farm off Borkum which is not on even the latest charts. Keep your radar fired up and guard zones active.

Does it even have radar, I can't see it?

Cheers DH... no radar so its eye's n ears.. presume its well enough lit at night.. and built in shallows.. thanks for the heads up..
Re provisioning.. gonna lay 7-10 days of food here then stop either on the S coast or Cherbourg to resupply if needed.. just need to fuel up for the Elbe..
If I can keep going I will... till across the Biscay.. La Coruna or more likely Baiona..

Just had Johan on board.. he's the guy who installed the AP and power solution on the boat.. really nice guy..
Anyway.. he reckons my best bet Kiel side is a dock more or less at the entrance to the Kanal.. apparently the Dutch schooners etc tie up there.. its a long jetty with a chandlery on the spot so to speak.. So... that's where I'll head for..
Its on the Holtenau side..

... see here: http://www.wsa-kiel.wsv.de/Schifffah...Yachthafen.jpg

Tiessenkai is where the Dutch Schooners normally dock, you can also dock nicely a bit further down to the west (Yachthafen) longside to the wooden bridge(s).

Guess Johan means Tiessenkai but it´s no more chandlery it's a tango cafe'.
Not the best place to stay for pleasure boats. No water, no shore power, no shops,
but nearby Holtenau marina is more or less suitable, even there no el. power, limited water supply at WC etc.

Guess I'd better get some wood for the stove...
Water and toilet.. no problem.. seems the remote will not be here in time as I want to head off tomorrow (liferaft just arrived) so Johan is arranging for it to be fitted the other side of the Kanal.. seems that's the main Navionic's place.. so all is gut
Thanks guys for the tips...
