50-55 footers with 2cabin aft galley setup?

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone here knows any other boats except for the Jeanneau 54 that has the 2 cabin and aft galley setup?

It really is a perfect setup for cruising as a couple and exactly what me and the wife are looking for.

I am having a hard time searching for boats with this layout though, so any and all tips are greatly appreciated!

The Amel 55 has a two aft cabin layout, as does the Beneteau Oceanis 55.1.

Hello knotstogo. Maybe it's my use of language because i'm not english born, but what I mean is that I'm looking for a sailboat where one of the aft cabins are replaced by the galley (the place where you cook food etc).

Thanks for your input and sorry if my language doesn't clearly explain what I'm looking for

A slightly different take on solving the problem would be the Southerly 54 where you have a large Aft state room and the Galley is down a few steps to aft of the saloon which achieves some of the separation I think you are looking for.

Southerly 540 - Interior Layout

The Discovery 55 has a similar arrangement

Howdy 14by12, Welcome aboard CF!

My Suggestion: Post a photo or layout plan of boats where you like the layout, indicate the boat shown in the layout illustration, and ask for others that are similar in layout. If possible, describe what you like about the layout or don't like.

"Pictures tell a thousand words."
And they help bridge the gap in languages.

When I was looking I was looking for two cabins, not quite as big as what you want. There just wasn't many out there.

Welcome to the group. Hope you find what you need. My DS 54 has a galley forward of the huge aft cabin and just behind the salon. Works very well for living aboard until you get hit by a hurricane.
Best wishes

What is an aft galley ? Amidships galley has less pitching. We have a Taswell 49 with 2 cabin layout and L shaped amidships galley. Most though were built as 3 cabin.

There's a video by pelagic expedition or Novak expedition. He has an aft galley talks about the design and benifits. You might like it.

This image is pulled from the Jeanneau 54 brochure. I've gotta say, I've never seen a layout like that.

This is a sincere question, and asked in a friendly tone of voice, with the sole intent to better understand your comment up above.

Why do you think this layout is "perfect" for a couple?

Most boats do not have that layout.
------------

I have seen a couple of boats with the saloon and galley in the aft section of the boat. But it is very rare, for a reason.

I think that is a really valid question.

For me and the missus we really appreciate the extra space an aft galley (like the layout of Dartanyon posted) because it gives a separate space for the cooking and associated activitites while leaving a space completely free from for entertaining and living.

It just seems like a perfect setup (at least for us as a couple) and use of space on a bigger boat since we rarely sleep more than 2 people onboard. The extra cabin space is mostly wasted except for the rare occasion when we have family over, and even then and extra cabin that sleeps two is plenty.

I hope this answered, why at least me and my so, feel like this is the perfect layout for a couple (with no friends )

Re: 50-55 footers with 2cabin aft galley setup?

I believe the issue here isnt language, but personal preference. Most cruisers want their galley amidships as it is less subject to pounding and pitching than the bow and stern as the vessel is going up and over and through swells. The midboat location is more of a pivot point and more stable and safer. IF you ate going to be cruising in sheltered waters with limited fetch OR with a significant other who can only handle "fair" winds cruising then the aft location could work....BUT you will definitely have to keep a weather eye as the cook will be scraping chow off the ceiling to say nothing of boiling water when that line blows through! There are some Gulets out of Turkey that do use this layout...they
are typically charter vessels that run coastal duty with mostly closed harbor anchorages....you could check them out! Good luck, keep us posted!

Re: 50-55 footers with 2cabin aft galley setup?

Welcome to the CF.

Aft for galley is not the most handy in passages where someone needs to be in the cockpit and the other prepares something in the galley.
Have a look at centre cockpit which in some cases have the galley in the aft side of the saloon, the Najad 505 is like thatClick image for larger version
