40 foot monohull big enough for 6kw gennie, dive compressor and liveaboard?

Is it feasible to equip a 40 foot monohull wth a 6kw generator, dive compressor, dive gear, 1 air con for 2 and liveaboard?

Is this too much gear for a 40 monohull? It seems common for a liveaboard cat, but I suspect that it is too much for a monohull boat.

A monohull would keep running costs lower but a cat would give me more room.

If not a 40 foot monohull, how big would I reasonably need?

Depends on tyhe design, a fat arsed 40 foot mono - no problem, a more seakindly hull shape, maybe maybe not, but hell I just finished dinner with a 70 year old guy sailing his 38 ft steel van der stat around the world, been his home for 7 years now, next year he will finally get back to Australia, so I think 40 foot should do it.

A 40 foot mono will carry the gear better than a 40 foot cat, unless it is a fat arsed cat, (see the common thread here) one of the things that monos definitely do better is load carrying.
And that is coming from a confirmed multi-huller.

Ok thanks very much that helps a lot.

Any ideas for a suitable boat in the 40 foot range which might be suitable? I would need a few options to consider and look into.

Bonus points for a common boat that has sold many models, such as a production boat, and not too deep a draft.

I would definitely need a bow thruster with a mono that's for sure.

I don't see why you couldn't have all of that on a 40 ft. monohull

If you don't know... the definition of the:

Right Sailboat = Compromise...

You could arguably do exactly as you propose on even a 35'er if you were willing to lose quarter berths... Of course displacement and balance are very important issues regardless of size...

We have a Hunter Legend 40.5 and she could do all you mention (a bright spot in the Hunter line imho), especially with only 2.

Good luck!

Look at the "fat arsed" Schucker 436. Huge engine bay, you could put 4 generators down there, shallow draft. Great live aboard.

What boat are you looking at? It also depends on how quickly you need to fill tanks.

You'll probably need space on deck to store bottles.

Experienced diver but newbie sailor reply here. If you just need the 6KW to run the dive compressor consider a compressor that runs off your main engine instead. I am also looking at options to dive off my 26' Columbia MK2. I have a small 5hp Honda powered coltri unit for diving trips.

To make viable suggestions, a budget figure would be needed.
