24 hour monohull distance record broken

After reading all the comments here one can only sit back and wonder at the sophmoric egotism and gang mentality of the various factions vying tp be the one with the strongest argument. As a fact not one here that I can see has personally set any sailing records of any sort and are just blindly cheering for their side with google info.
Maybe the fastest sailing vessel ever was
Flying Cloud which had a noon to noon run of 374 miles in 1851 all man powered systems. The more salient point being , doing something meaningful in their quest.
At 1782 tons I seriously doubt this record will ever be broken when it comes to the ton/mile measure of speed and distance.
And imagine, as some might be able, no computers, weather routing, GPS, sailing instruments, even flashlights. No safety gear
No possible help or backup of any sort. No preposterous gadgetry. All these cats, tri's, and monos have one thing in common, they are playtoys of the .01% powerd by wind driven ego as are the defenders who comfortably extol their vises and virtues for...what?

You just create a new category for 24 hour/miles sail record: Tons/sailed miles.

You can set a lot of 24 hour/mile sail record categories, like miles/Loa , miles for square sail area, miles for boats without movable foils, miles for full keel boats, miles for non canting monohulls, miles for classic boats (designed before the 70's), miles for older boats (designed before the 90's) and so on but I cannot see the point.

One record for the fastest 24 hour run on a sailboat seems quite enough to me and in what regards that the fastest are the maxi trimarans that can do almost 3 tipes the speed of Old Morning Cloud even if they have only half the LOA.

The discussion never was about who are the fastest boats on an downwind 24 run but about being the fastest boat in all sail and sea conditions.

Speed records are based in commerce not sport. Getting the first ship in with spices from the East Indies, or wool from Australia etc etc, was very very valuable in commercial terms. The faster the trip could be done, the more money was made. So way back one thing mattered - how fast.

I don't get it. Certainly a speed record that happens on a commercial venture where speed is profit has all to do with commerce and nothing with sport, I agree.

But a modern 24 hours record has nothing to do with commerce and all with sailing as a sport. The 24 hours sailing absolut records (the actual and the previous) where all obtained on attempts to beat the Jules Verne Trophy (the fastest circumnavigation), the monohull ones were obtained respectively on the Vendee Globe (solo one) and regarding Comanche on a specific sportive attempt to beat the 24 hours record. The anterior ones was obtained during the Volvo Ocean Race.

All this has to do with sail as a sport and not with commerce and while on the times of the clippers speed mattered not as an end in itself but as a way to obtain more profit (commercial venture) sailing speed now matters as an end in itself (sportive achievement).
