Hi all,

I hope that everyone had a great and safe holidays. I wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with these yachts? And what your personal opinion and/or experience was with them.

Cheers!!

Chartered one for 10 days out of Guadeloupe in '06. Sailed to Marie Galante, Dominica, The Saints and back. The boat sailed very well in open water on all points of sail. Fast and comfortable. Best leg was Marie Galante to Dominica, beam & broad reaching with quartering seas = quick trip, some surfing and hitting double digits at times.

Twin wheels are good for visibility, transom pass-thru & comfort while steering but shortens the cockpit seating & nap position.

V-berth head stole too much room, one large head would be fine. An owners version with 2 cabins, storage and one large head would be great.

If you are looking to buy, definitely check the mast compression, deck integrity, cabin support post and v-berth cabin entry frame / door integrity which can disclose a problem in that area.

Friends of mine just put 20K miles under the keel of their 49' and had very few complaints...different animal but reassuring anyway I suppose.

Another One

Remembered that it handled well in close quarters under power including reverse. Had several occasions during the charter especially returning to base & placing the boat back on the dock (sliding into med-moor slot between boats) and also taking on water in Dominica @ cruise ship facility (portsmouth - crazy)

Re: 2000 - 2004 Jeanneau 40 DS

Hi Shadow, although this is dated, thought I would giVe my 2cents worth. We haVe a 2001 40DS since 06 and she has handled great. We just finished three years in the carib aboard without issue. I think she is great for the Carib as she can points high into the wind while making good speed, so often we found our route was more or less into the wind. Hope you hae long since found your boat
