I am considering a 1980 Niagara 35 that has come up for sale. Who can give me any information on sailing characteristics, Points to look out for and Pros and cons about this design?
Is she capable of ocean crossing?
Has Rod rigged. What should I be careful of?

1980 rod is due for reheading or replacing, if not done previously

They have balsa cored hulls which some love and others worry about.

Re: 1980 Niagara 35

They sure had a good rep when they came out, as I recollect. They're built by the same folks who built the Nonsuch boats, Hinterhoeller (not sure if I spelled that right.) Good rep for build quality. I THINK they are balsa cored down to waterline. If it is in good shape, it is considered suitable for "bluewater." There is a facebook group for them too, you might check in there too. I've never sailed one but I remember folks saying they sailed well, but they wished they were a little faster. Of course I guess everyone says that at one time or another about their boat.
