1979 Lippincott Star class project

Hey fellow sailors,

so i had a offer to buy a 1979 Lippincott Star class for $500 heres what i know the guy told me about it

''It only came with a jib that is in fair shape. All the deck hardware is there and in place (for location purposes), but would need to be replaced, except for the jib traveler, it is in good shape and all stops work. I bought it from a guy in Toronto, it was stored at the bottom of Leslie St. The hull was spray painted but almost all of it came off with only a scotch brite pad, and the small amount I sanded came off like nothing. I have the mast and boom with all three stays.''

i know project boats normally turn in to lots money and work, else does anyone have any reviews about them and how they sail?

I have sailed starboats for a few years and have enjoyed them immensely however I am no expert Star sailor knowing that some of the best sailors in the world either came out of or still a member of the class. I currently own a later model Mauder (german built) and will probably sail it this summer.
It is obviously an old design that has survived and undergone many changes.It is truly the Ferrari of small keelboats. They are a tricky boat to sail with lots of "strings to pull."
There are many boats available and if you check in areas that have fleets I would think you will find people willing to actually give you free parts to get you sailing.
We all have many sails that you could have if you want to pay for shipping and/or pick them up.
There are a lot of Star aficionados sailing out of my yacht club that are far more knowledgeable than I and am sure they would be willing to give you some tips and parts.
Also just go onto the Star Class web site (google star class) and you will find much information. If you want more information from me just post me privately and I will try to help.
Good luck, it should be a fun project. Again you should not have to pay for parts.
