Looks like a fun daysailer. Our club is looking for similar design 18 footers as a transition from dinghy's to keelboats.

Here's an ad for one.

Lockley-Newport 18, 1978, Omaha, Nebraska, $3,299

Thank You, Thats interesting the Newport I am looking at has a cabin. Maybe the length is wrong? I will have to double check with the owner.

It seems to me there is some confusion around what thise series of boats is called. The sales brochures in teh first sectino of this site should shed some light.

Newport Resources

Advertised as a 19.

Lockley Newport 19, ad expired, 1981, The Boat House of Madison, Waunakee, Wisconsin, asking $3,600

Advertised as a 23.

Lockley Newport LN 23, sold, 1979, Port Matilda, Pennsylvania, $5,700

I think we have found it. It looks like the Newport 17 (Jim Ward's) except all white. I am going to take pictures and post them today. I wonder if getting parts will be an issue? Maybe I will have to manufacture any thing I need myself. I will survey the boat better.

I have to make the guy an offer....any ideas?

The boat has been sitting for awhile and will need to some work.

But looks like a great daysailer. Are Newport hulls consider good or bad?

This site seems to be a forum for these types of trailer sailers. Near the bottom of the page is a search button. I hit that and typerd in Newport and got a ton of hits. Some are pretty recent so it's active. There may be experts over there.

Newport Gloucester Neptune Forum - Message Index

Good luck.

Re: 1976 Newport Sailboat

I am about to pick up a 1976 Newport 17. It will be my first boat. And the add says "only needs nuts and bolts". Does anyone have any information on the Newport 17 they can send me.l? It seems to be hard to find online.
