Are you near enough to Richmond to take a first-hand look at the vessel? Or, if not, do you know anyone in the Bay Area whose opinion you value and who would take the time to do it for you? You may even be able to contact a surveyor
there who wouldn't mind giving the Dufour
a once-over for you for a token fee.
At the very least, you could probably find someone on CF who could easily drop by the location of the vessel and let you know what he or she sees as the good and bad points. I've had CF members check vessels for me from San Diego
to Ft. Pierce while I was on vacation
It's a coarse filter, but it can eliminate a lot of wasted time, effort and expense.
I believe Bobby is affiliated with the non-profit selling the Dufour
. The listing indicates that they rely on the assertions of the vessel owner and are not qualified to assess the actual condition of any donated item. That's worth remembering when he gets back to you with more information.
