1974 23' coronado

i have found a 23' coronado at a great price, it has new interior and a 2006 outboard. can anyone give me some feed back on this boat? i like the layout, sails and rigging are in good condition. i am unsure about the keel on this boat, i dont know how to tell if its a fixed or swing keel. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Re: 1974 23' coronado

I owned a 23 in the late 80s and 90s named "Salt Hart". It is the first sailboat I owned. Prior to this I had only wind surfed and raced Hobie's. I have siled the Salt Hart on SF bay and lake Tahoe. I have nothing but praise for the boat! My only complaint was the V berth. It has a fixed keel and sails good to about 25K, nevered tried more. The bay is rough and ready and a good trial for a novice sailer and his boat.
Since the Salt Hart I have owned a Hans Christian 33 and a Island Packet 31. I now own a Pacific Seacraft Dana 24. I have lived aboard since 1996 and sailed the East Coast and Bahamas. I rate the sailing enjoyment of the boats as follows. 1 is the Dana 2 is the Coronado 3 Hans Christian 4 Island Packet
These are not cheap boats and as for sailing the 23 is right up there. For living aboard it would be a 4. As for maintainence it is a 1 because of its simplicity. On a reach it will track hands off forever. For 1 or 2 it can go off shore on either coast and be a good ride.
I towed it with a 1970 Ford 1/2 ton pickup and a single axel trailer.
Hope this helps. Harley

Re: 1974 23' coronado

I had a 23 for 10 years in SF, Cal and Lake Tahoe. Since it was my first sailboat, I learned with it. Designed by Bill Crealock, it is a great boat.. Had a Hans Christian, Island Packet and lived aboard for 20 years and your boat compared well. Need no dingy, just run it straight in and hop off.
When I got too old to live aboard, I couldn't find another so I bought a Dana 24,$$$, and found it has the same good feel. Dana is a Crealock boat, also. I feel comfortable sailing these boats in the Pacific offshore. You can write me if you wish. Harley
