1969 Dreadnought?

Hello, I am the owner of a 25' Lancer and have been looking to go bigger. While browsing listings online the other day I came across one advertised as a 1969 Dreadnought William Crealock Design. However, based upon my research, Crealock designed the 1973 Dreadnought 32.

I messaged the seller and received the following response: "All the paper work that I have that covers the last 2 owners over a couple decades, state that it is 1969 Dreadnought 32."

I'm a little confused and am hoping someone can shed some light on this.

Thanks.

Welcome aboard knownothing! Those Dreadnoughts were built locally. They are of the heavy strong lifeboat design philosophy. There was one in the local yard a while back that was basically abandoned. I wonder if this is the one. Where is it located?

Not sure why it says ‘69, maybe they meant 79. It seems to me they were built before 73. I wonder if this is a wood one?

Re: 1969 Dreadnought?

I had friends that sailed one from Canada to the South Pacific twice. Came all the way back from New Zealand. I considered it sort of a skinny Westsail with a much better cockpit than a Westsail. Like many traditional designs , it wont set speed records but it will get you where you want to go. With the boat in question, it is the thought of money vs time. It will take lots of both. Good Luck. ____Grant.

Yeah, The Dreadnought is a tough go anywhere boat, thought about one myself at one time, but like Grant said, money and time, for sure a lot of both, In my view it's better to get a boat that's mostly there, but that's just me, I sold my W32, was only coming back to the states once a year, at most, still working, looking to buy in SEA maybe New Zealand, Good Luck

Re: 1969 Dreadnought?

fwiw: Years ago I had a friend with a gaff rigged Dreadnought. He loved the boat and managed to get it to NZ eventually. BUT... it was such a sluggish performer that even in the windy SF bay he needed to run the engine to make progress when the wind was forward of ~75 deg apparent. He didn't mind this, but I would never want a boat with similar characteristics.
