So as these cat types keep telling us that they are so very much faster than monos I figure that they're the ones that will crumple most .

But maybe if trying to go to windward a cat in irons would only have a gentle bump .

Car always wins! Even if the Bug is a VW one...

In the 80's Friends daughter (drunk) drove his 1978 T-Bird off the freeway, into space, into one of California's biggest water culverts (empty at the time), landed on it's roof and she walked away.

I miss my '76 Lincoln town car...

But I digress...

142 - Only one saildrive to replace when the zinc depletes

#146 Positive bow angle...

#146 Because the bow on monos is angled forward, when you nudge something the bow rises up and over with a glancing blow. The force is dissipated slowly. The inherently stronger construction limits the damage. Don't ask how I know this.

147 - when asked the 101 things which are better in a mono, it's real easy to get to 147 reasons and still be going strong

I'm amazed we are 10 pages in and no ones trying to rip throats out. Fan-bloody-tastic effort by all.

150: Monohull's knotmeters only need to show 1 number, and will probably not need 7, 8, or 9.

Gmac, man that is smoking!!!!! Need crew? Would love to go for a ride on a boat like that. I'll donate the rum and promise not to bag on monos ever again. Well at least bring the rum anyway.

Here's how you go 19 knots in a mono...

semi-ot

Actually, I've been trying to figure out how my CD25D (18ft waterline monohull) occasionally gets up on the wave and stays there for bit... at least, that's how it feels, and I have tracks suddenly accelerating to 7, even 8+...

151 Monohulls still have you scratching your head and wondering how that happened, while the catamaran skipper has an explanation for everything. The mysteries of life are exactly that on a mono...

Amgine - there are many mysteries but if the wave is moving at 2 knots and hull speed is 5.5 knots, you can see 7.5 on the gps. Also when heeled your waterline length increases.

Now if it's a speed log showing 8 knots then we need Moulder and Scully out here, or an exorcist - LOL...

Heh... Well, that happens too, but I don't have log printout. Usually the log sorta spikes up then settles down, but the gps keeps reporting insane speed until the wave gets under me. It's pretty cool, in a "I think my heart is gonna explode" sorta way, something I expect the multihullers are more used to. (One of the reasons I'm considering chartering multi next...)

Hmm. I thought we were going to play nice here... Oh THAT'S RIGHT, I'm supposed to be too stupid to know when I'm being insulted.

That from a "Site Helper"...

That's more just a real good day thing than something I could call common sadly Rob

152 - Occasionally monos will get up and boogy like them 2 hulled beasts but as it doesn't happen that often - doing 15 plus kts in a mono is more fun than a multi
