Solo Around the Americas

Matt Rutherford has left the Chesapeake in an attempt to do a solo around the Americas.

Solo Around the America's Under Sail | An audacious attempt at sailing the Northwest Passage and circumnavigating entirety of both continents, to benefit Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating

I'm no fan of solo sailing, but I wish him well.

I used the 110nm trip down the Chesapeake Bay as a sea trial and found several things that needed modification.
Gees, I wish people would stop doing that!

Going before they are ready, or before the boat is ready, or before the boat and sailor have been introduced.

So this bloke is going to try the NW Passage and hasn't even sailed the friggin boat before?

Re: Solo Around the Americas

What is he supposed to do? You have to start somewhere?

How can you ever get any experience without actually going somewhere?

Maybe he should sit and throw money at his boat until somebody tells him it's ready...

Mark;

I spent a few seconds looking over his website - he as at least one long sail, a double trans-Atlantic (single handed) under his belt.

I have a pair of mint-flavored shoes I can send you, if you like

Chris

Despite your cynical comment you might want to check his progress at solotheamericas.org

Re: Solo Around the Americas

For those not following his blog, his position indicates that he is almost half way around the Horn.

He's really been moving the past few days; it will be interesting to read his next posting, which I suspect will come after he has completed the whole Horn trip.

Ooopp... just checked, he has posted. Now to read it!
