Prince William Sound

I watched a very interesting video last night about two young adventurers, Bixler and Krystin, who sail a Cal 34 in the magnificent cruising ground of Prince William Sound, Alaska. They embody a true sense of adventure as they sail, hunt and fish during their 4 week cruise. The link is:Boat, Beaches, & Bears 2: Another Year in the Last Frontier - YouTube and their website is: Alaskagraphy.com.
***********Warning: You will not find videos of beach volleyball, sack races, potluck dinners, crowded and polluted anchorages, poetry readings, 3 chord guitarists, helpful do-gooders donating their time to the local indigenes-- just two intelligent, creative people enjoying life and the true essence of cruising. Good luck, good sailing and good viewing.

That's some excellent video. Makes me ashamed that I wait till July to sail in Maine. Those guys were out on the water in March in Alaska. Damn.

Here's their earlier video:

Big Country, Big Tides, politically incorrect Pioneer Spirit.
No room for discussion about guns or overfishing and such a positive attitude about cold weather fueled by copious amounts of alcohol and cigars.
I love it!!

In 1984 my girlfriend and I sailed a Truant in January from Vancouver as far north as Minstrel Island and back.

Still stands out as one of my most enjoyable cruises

Re: Prince William Sound

We met Bixler and Krysten when we shared an anchorage at 7 Fathom Hole in PWS last summer while waiting out a blow. Bix taught my wife how to snag salmon and shoot (photos on our blog in the "Alaska" gallery). They are great folks having a blast living the life in Alaska. We couldn't tempt them south, and I don't blame them!

Prince William Sound is our "home" cruising ground.

It represents wilderness cruising at its finest.

These photos were taken just last week.

If you read passagemaker magazine you'll recognize the shot of the glacier. This is one of my favorite places. A similar photo, taken by yours truly was on the inside front cover, full page two or three issues back.

They should rename it Princess Kate Sound, she's much prettier.

Re: Prince William Sound

PWS is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Nothing beats the spring arrival of the Humpback whales and the Orcas. There are many hidy holes and good fishing to boot.

Lol. You and I will just have to resign ourselves to not having "the true essence of cruising".

Re: Prince William Sound

Wow - What beautiful footage. We hope to make it up there one of these seasons. The scenery, sailing & fishing looked amazing. Their doc had an honest feel to it but left me wondering why they killed the bears and how the run-in with another boat happened. It's good to know there is good craft beer in PWS.

Re: Prince William Sound

I have signed on for two more tours on the boat I work on. (2years) Then it's our turn to explorer the Alaskan waterways. I watch the videos and read the accounts of you guys that are way ahead of me in anticipation of my turn at such a great adventure. Hope to meet you all some day and share our life's stories. Until then I wish you smooth sailing!
