Another item for your bucket list

This ocean path will take you on the longest straight-line journey on Earth | Science Mag

If you want to go on the longest boat ride in the world, but you don’t have a rudder, what route would you take? Five years ago, a Reddit user proposed that traveling overseas from southern Pakistan to northeastern Russia would yield a trip of 32,090.3 kilometers—the longest straight-line journey on Earth. Now, a team of scientists has finally proved him right.

Finding the longest straight-line path over the ocean became a question of geometry. All straight-line paths along a sphere form a shape called a great circle. Great circles always traverse the maximum circumference of the sphere, and thus always lie in the same plane as the center of the sphere. The equator, for example, is a great circle.

The team turned to an optimization algorithm known as “branch and bound,” a computer program that tests only a few subsets of all the possible great circles. It then fine tunes the search over and over again for lines that seem promising—those with the longest paths. It took a standard laptop computer just 10 minutes to home in on the optimal solution.

What's Halarious is how when the Heritical Deniers point out the Record Cold Winter the USA had this year they are lectured about not understanding Climate vs Weather. Then when it's hot in the summer in the USA, the same MMGWC folks use the Hot Weather to lecture Deniers about Climate Change. It's so funny that you couldn't make this stuff up...except they HAVE.....MMGW is a Bigger Hoax than the Russian Collusion Scam.

Oh No....you don't get to play that game here. If you want to show a data input model, you have to explain the assumptions and data input behind the model. In science, real science, everyone knows you can make a "prediction" do whatever you want based on the data and assumptions you plug in. And it sure doesn't hurt if attached to that model is Grant Money and Religious Orthodoxy.

That pretty much sums up the Entire MMGW Hoax and you know this is true because their solution always includes Billions in Transfer Payments and new Taxes to save the Planet. Sorry Folks...those looking to Government for Salvation need only look to Washington DC to realize the folly in that Cult.

what don't like my predictions? Looks similar to what we have had this winter doesn't it
Also I predict this pattern to persist for the next several years to even possibly decadal timeframes.

Newhaul,
You failed to note the irony in my post. Note the similarity of the responses of post #769 and post #774.

Except there's no irony when Newhaul presents it as HIS prediction; Jack as THE prediction. Are there others offered by science that are equally as credible? If so, then Jack's may be misleading.

Actually, I wasn't complaining about either Jackdale's or Newhaul's post. What I was trying to draw attention to was the venom, spite, and ridicule that SV Third Day typically includes in his posts, always directed towards an "alarmist" post, even when a similar post is concurrently made by a "denier".

This thread has lasted an amazingly long time on this forum, for a climate-related thread. I hope that we participants will continue to post with sufficient good-will that the thread will continue to be allowed by the moderators. But whenever SV ThirdDay posts, with his unusually harsh rhetoric, my hopes for this thread's longevity sink.
