The Broughtons Aug/Sept 2019

We have a cabin available for our trip to the Broughtons this year! This would be for 1 week, from 8/29 to 9/6.

Who: We are three experienced sailors (former live-aboards and ex-Navy skipper) in our 60's, now charterers rather than owners.

When: You fly into the Broughtons (either Echo Bay Pierre's at Echo Bay | Lodge & Marina - Broughton Archipelago ) or Sullivan Bay, https://www.sullivanbaymarina.com/) on 8/29. We will meet you on the dock as we will be dropping off our other guests to fly back. We enjoy the Broughtons and (maybe) Desolation Sound, ending up back in Nanaimo on the evening of 9/5 or morning of 9/6. Depending on where you are coming from, you can either drive back to Seattle with us, or proceed on your own way. We will have two vehicles in Nanaimo.

What: We've reserved a Lagoon 42, Water Dragon. (Yes, we know cats and have sailed/owned a number of them.) Owner's version (3 cabin/3 head), so you would have a cabin/head to yourself. We chartered Water Dragon last year and were very impressed. A lovely boat that sails well. More info about the boat: https://www.nanaimoyachtcharters.com...s/?yacht_id=94

Where: This is our second trip to the Broughtons and are planning to explore some areas in more detail. We have been to Desolation many times and know the area well, so we're acquainted with the various challenges, but also know the anchorages well.

Costs: This is a charter-share arrangement. We handle that by figuring the "per person/per day" costs for boat + expenses and dividing accordingly. In addition to your travel up, we simply split the costs of the boat and expenses along the way. Expenses include food, fuel, any dock fees at marinas and that’s about it. The cost of the boat for the second week, there would be 5 people on board, would be $1547 CAN, each. The other expenses usually work out to around 20%, so figure around $310, each for other expenses, for a total of approximately $1856 CAN, each. If you're thinking in USD, the exchange rate has been around .75 for the last number of months. Assuming it stays there, that will be about $1375, each in US dollars. Of course, that will vary with the exchange rate.

Details: Being on the 'older' end of the age spectrum, we are not a party-boat, preferring the journey and enjoying the destination. We are not big drinkers (in fact, friends of Bill W are welcome), but don't mind light drinking (just bring your own). We enjoy sight-seeing and wildlife-seeing, as well as dayhikes, eating great food, playing games in the evening, and of course, sailing! There are also wildlife tour guides in the area for viewing bears, etc. and we will likely do one.

Although we have lots of experience, we don't mind newbies, at all. In fact, if you're inexperienced to sailing/cruising but curious and want to get a taste of what it's like, this would be a great trip for you. We're happy to teach!

While it would probably be easier for PNW natives, we don't mind making arrangements for someone flying in. We would like to do a meet-up (either in person or Skype) before finalizing things, just to look at compatibility. Even big boats get awfully small if you're not getting along!

How to get more info: Reply to the thread and/or PM me!

Looking forward to it, we always have a great time!

Re: The Broughtons Aug/Sept 2019

Thank you for your attention, but the cabin has been taken.

As a consolation, I leave you with this photo of dawn across from Robson Bight on Johnstone Strait, taken after an evening of having two pods of orcas using the rubbing beach about 75 feet from where we were anchored. A magical night and morning!
