Soon to be 100 Ton Master needs 90 current days sea time...

Going to MPT in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for my 100 Ton Master's Near Coastal ticket March 18 to 29, 2019.

Have plenty of booked sea time though it was in my younger years aboard ships and in the Coast Guard. I now need a current 90 days sea time to fully qualify for my ticket.

Lots of experience offshore and watch standing, some sailing experience but only 5% of my time there. Rusty in all departments but my heart is in the dream to go back to sea so I seek a crew position for those 90 days.

My interest is sailing and my intent is to buy a catamaran and charter for a few years after getting my ticket.

1st and best choice is a paid position mating on a sailing catamaran most anywhere that's warm,,,not into cold weather. I am available late April or early May 2019 and have an open agenda and current passport. Happy to sign on for an Atlantic crossing or delivery anywhere southern bound.

Also available for crew position and watch standing not paid but food and travel covered onboard a sailing catamaran.

Am very open to working, sailing so nothing is in stone, make me an offer on a way to get my 90 days quickly and I'll consider it. I can make my own way if it's an ideal situation.

I'm 62 years young, very fit, no medications or health issues and love being at sea and being in the warm weather while doing so! lol!

Don't forget you need something like 90 days of 100 ton sea time (currency ?) in the last few (I forget the time frame) years...

I did not renew my ticket last year. The kind of sailing I like to do now (crew on yacht deliverys) does not require a ticket and the fees really add up.

The STCW BST refresher course is $700. I don't know if you still need a TWIC card but that was $150 last time. The medical that they make me do 2 times every time is a few hundred a pop. Plus the USCG fees and travel and lodging etc.

I think I was looking at something like $2500 to renew a ticket I did not want to use anymore.

Good luck at class. My wife and I went through the MPT class in 2012. They will teach you how to pass the test.

IT is March 14th to-day and you need 90 days by March 18th? what year exactly are we talking about? Youth education sail Training organizations are always looking for help. Most of the people I know who got their 100 Ton ticket did it by having time documented in the sail training industry. Many at a live aboard honorarium of $100 per month. 3 hots and a cot.

Re: Soon to be 100 Ton Master needs 90 current days sea time...

A little confusing, right? I will get the course completion certificate March 29, 2019. I will need the 90 days current sea time within a year of getting the certificate in order to get the 100 Ton Master's license. Any sea time will work for me as I already have well over 720 days of sea time on vessels over 200 tons. Just 90 days, 4 hours or better on a boat will do it. The rule states that 90 of the required 720 days must be within the last 2 years... that's the rub as my time is older than the last 2.
Thanks for the heads up on the schools...good idea.
