Looking to be Crew

Good morning,

I'm 26 and have been an Outdoor Instructor for 5 years. I am interested in crewing a boat in the UK, or somewhere where I can get a cheap flight to.

I have crewed for a weekend in the Isle of White area, I've done a small amount of dingy sailing and have my Powerboat Level 2 and Safety Boat. I consider myself to be a keen beginner looking to get some experience and volunteer as crew.

I am currently free until the 3rd of Jan, do people often do last minute short trips and look for crew like myself? I am considering taking some time off of work to seek better opportunities in the future.

Any advice for the naive beginner welcomed.

Steve

My wife and I take crew but only for legs over 1,000nm. It is hard to get an inexperienced crew member trained for anything worthwhile in less than a week!

Latest crew signed up for a 10,000nm, six month trip!

I normally single hand, but when I may be in a hurry going up and down the East Coast i usually look for a crew member. I have taken on crew with no experience because I can handle the boat by myself and all I need is another set of eyes and ears. Not hard to train a crew to do watch at the helm for four hours or so while I take a nap. If there are any problems or instruct the crew to wake me immediately.

Try Crewseekers or the , free, Crewbay websites. If you want to throw a sickie I'm sailing around Southern Brittany from 2-17 Jan with a possible car share from UK.

Crewseekers looks like a great place! I'll have to check out Crewbay.

That would have been amazing! I really can't miss work though
