Yes it is there business and no on else's but when you post on a public forum which has moderators then people are entitled to their freedom of speech.
and the posts are very interesting to read in regards to others opinions , without discussion we become a mono culture even in sailing , so dare I say how does one anchor

Yes I personally think the OP should have phrased it something like

Crew wanted, must be gay, or at least perfectly comfortable living and working cheek by jowl with LGBTetc people.

Otherwise to me it seems perhaps s/he may be hoping crew may join in the onboard sexual activities.

Which IMO would be fine too, but would certainly need to be spelled out well beforehand.

For those CISgender normies out there actually interested,

gender identity,

gender expression, and

sexual orientation

are not necessarily related, can be completely separate (and fluid, evolving) issues for many

Maybe not the best time to bring this up, but this is a privately owned forum, not so sure actually how many “rights” we have.
We need sometimes to remember we are visiting at someone else’s house, and ought to be nice as visitors should.
I am not saying you haven’t been, just bringing up how maybe free speech and other “rights” may not be applicable on any forum, not just this one.

There is no such thing as "rights".
It only conceptualy exists as a negotiated thing, subject to further negotiated conditions that can be interpreted as inalienable by any form of social bias.

However, as an unspoken form of negotiated rights in this case, we always have the option in any Forum to withdraw as a group, thus rendering the Forum's owner with an empty and no longer commercially viable investment.

So I think it's safe to say that our rights and freedom of speech is taken seriously by the CF owner, because it is a mutually beneficial thing.

Being nice is simply a useful attitude we use to encourage Forum Communication.
However, it is not always the best tactic in other situations

by THESE PEOPLE i was not refering to the 50 odd BIcurious people who commented,but the op who referred to themselves in the plural( Matt and Jett), as a couple ie them,or in third person "these"

In the years since I joined CF, there have been quite a few crew wanted posts looking for a female crew person. No one got upset with them, and to me, that is equally discriminatory as the subject ad.

Folks going out cruising are wanting to be surrounded by congenial fellow sailors. Seems to me quite reasonable to specify what you find congenial in your ad seeking companions. I ge t the feeling that many of the outraged responses upthread are expression of either homophobia or "anti-homophobia" sorts of bias, and I reckon it is out of place in this discussion.

I wonder if the OP has had any positive responses in private... I do hope so,and I don't really blame him for not participating further himself.
