looking for a captain to help me.

Looking for a captain to help me sail from Ft Meyers to St Augustine leaving around the first week of July. I would rather not make this trip myself and could use some help, A captain is preferred.

I am booked up, but info about the boat (26’ Hunter, 53 Bene?) would be useful. Also are you looking for a non-stop delivery (would need one more crew) or stops along the way?

Re: looking for a captain to help me.

Sorry guys for the lack of info. If purchase goes through I will be bringing a 2005 lagoon 380. If I did it solo I would day trip it, but if I can make it work with a captain the trip gets a little easier and have more options.

Are you going to leave the boat in St. Augustine?
I ask as it doesn’t seem to be a good place to put your new to you Boat this time of year.

Re: looking for a captain to help me.

I agree and unfortunately it is my contingency plan at the moment. If I leave it at St Augustine it will only be for a short time. Original plan is to put it on the hard at St Mary's Boat yard. I am am on a waiting list there and have my fingers crossed!

Not a lot of choices unless I want go north to Beaufort, which is also an option. At this point I just need to get it to the east side of northern Florida and then decide. If I go someplace other then St Augustine I will solo from there.

Re: looking for a captain to help me.

If you are looking for a safe place to leave the boat, go a little further north to Jacksonville Beach- an easy day sail up the ICW, assuming your mast is <65'. Beach Marine is a pretty good place to leave a boat. Decent security and well protected from weather. No affiliation, just have left my boat there a few times with no complaints.

Re: looking for a captain to help me.

Remember to mind your mast height (air draft)
Looks like you have to go "South and around" as your height may not fit through the Okeechobee Waterway.

Good Luck!

There's some marina down the St-John river that are safe also.
You could check for availability.

That is where I am, but we are full time so being on the hard isn’t an option for us.

Re: looking for a captain to help me.

consider using Snake Creek to cut through the Keys. I've run a L40 with 64 feet air draft under the bascule bridge. Charts show 4 feet at entrance but there is more than that, at least 5 all the time.

Assuming you have insurance, will they let you stay S of 31N during hurricane season without a premium bump ? Mine won't

Re: looking for a captain to help me.

I usually sail as paid navigator but since this would be a local trip for me I can negotiate. Lived and sailed in Key West/ Bahamas for past 15 yrs on my contest 29. have done KW to Sarasota twice and I would go around rather than risk fouling my engine with Lake O algae. I am now in Port Charlotte Flso it would easy to meet with you.
