Folkboat

Hi everyone I'm new to this site so please advise if I've posted this in the wrong place.
I am looking for someone in the North Wales / North West England who owns a folkboat that may need a crew for the day. After sailing/crewing for a few years I have decided to purchase my own boat hopefully in time for next season and have decided to go for a wooden carvel type folkboat as it seems the right size and choice for me. Although I've never sailed on one I am looking for some experience doing so to make sure its the right choice for me and to get a feel for this type of boat before I waste my time travelling all over the country to buy one. Most of the ones I've seen for sale that I am interested in are either on the south coast or further away from me so it's a long way to go to look at a boat you're not sure you'd even like sailing.

Re: Folkboat

Dave, welcome to CF. For such a specific need you might be better contacting the asssociation to find a member nearby.

If your looking for something similar then the Folkboat sporned a series of similar boats in wood and GRP which offer better accommodation etc for example the Stella.

Worth doing the research on Folkboats and there is a book available which I read years ago. Certainly some of the East German made Folkboats from the 1960s warrant careful surveying if you are to avoid a pig in a poke.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

IF it was me, I would look for a GRP similar sized craft like the Elizabeth 23, Invicta 26 or Halcyon 27. GRP will be far less work than an old Folkboat so more time sailing.

Pete
