FLORIDA - BIMINI

Hi,

We are a English couple ( ages 29 and 36 ) who are wanting to cross to Bimini next week from Florida ( ideally to be in Bimini on the 5th Sept ).

Will contribute to fuel and boat entry costs.

Does anyone know of any other forums where we could post such a question?

Thanks

Hi Cha7 - I noticed you did multiple postings with the same topic. Because you are looking for crew positions this is the appropriate forum. I removed the other one. Good luck in yuior search.

Not sure that many boat owners go on some forum to pick up passengers/strangers for their holiday.

I sure would not go that route. Having sailed from Florida to Bimini at least 25 times I would rather go solo than take strangers on. (Unless I got to spend a few hours with them and another 30 minuttes inspecting their luggage)

If I was hireing proffesional crews with proper references, that would be one thing, but to camp out with strangers in the middle of nowhere would not be this boat-owner's cup of tea.

Here is a link to a deadly story when strangers came on a boat from Florida to Bimini..The owners of the boat was murdered and the "Charter Guests" tried to steal the boat.

That can be deadly too:

At least 19 dead as seaplane crashes off Miami

Witnesses describe explosion before craft goes down

CNN.com - At least 19 dead as seaplane crashes off Miami - Dec 19, 2005

After the fatal crash they went out of business...

Try Gulstream Airlines or Continental Express.

After the 2005 crash, the Federal Aviation Administration grounded the Grumman G-73T Mallard that Chalk’s* flew, because of metal cracks in the wings. In August 2006, Chalk's resumed flights using 19-seat conventional planes leased from Montana-based Big Sky Airlines.

The 2005 crash shook confidence in Chalk's and left it without a fleet of its own. In its Sept. 30, 2007 order, the Department of Transportation said it gave Chalk's more than a year to get the Federal Aviation Administration to re-certify its Mallard seaplanes, or to acquire new planes, but it did neither, so the department revoked its flying charter.

Remember that crash like it was yesterday. We had just got into Miami through Government Cut and were anchored in the Publix anchorage. They closed Government Cut as the plane went down right in the Cut. Sad day especially for Bimini as most of the victims were returning home there.
