Re: Crew Position Open Taiwan, Japan, Alaska and BC

My guess that even if this venture attracts several crew prepared to pay well, it is unlikely to make a profit Given the time, distance, wear and tear and provisioning, port fees etc.

Would expect to pay several thousand for such an interesting trip.

Re: Crew Position Open Taiwan, Japan, Alaska and BC

If someone did the whole offered trip, leaving Taiwan on a weather window early April, hopefully leaving Japan mid June then via Alaska to Seattle by end of September...that's about 5 months
Someone else said $20 a day times 5 months which is around $3, 000.
Curious if that is considered appropriate?

Re: Crew Position Open Taiwan, Japan, Alaska and BC

IMHO...RL2019 is a delivery skipper. He is likely being paid a fee to deliver a boat from Taiwan to the USA. His route is typical for this trip.

So, perhaps he is looking for inexperienced crew that should expect training in exchange for their "financial contribution," or he is looking for inexperienced crew who will financially contribute towards the delivery fee.

IMHO...be honest and upfront what you need...in crew requests...save a lot of unexpected surprises.

Japan to Seattle non-stop is approximately 45 days at sea skirting the north side of the Pacific High.

If this is a delivery, I don't think they'd be 5 months in delivering a boat.

The OP is unclear of his exact purpose, which is why I suspect there are so many questions and comments.

The OP is also advertising on Facebook for crew? No idea how it ended up in my news feed. He is talking about a 2 month voyage.
Cheers

Agreed but I think it is still appropriate that the details are discussed privately.

....If it is not his boat and it is a delivery, then he must work really cheap and attract similar clients who wish to sell berths rather than find experienced crew...
......That is not an easy passage!
.....but again, I'm not interested, so would not set up a call to discuss details

If it is his boat and they are following the Cherry Blossom seasons via the Setonaikai

Then they would be taking in amazing remote historical shoreside sites of Southern Japan and Setonaikai.

That Definitely would be worth confirming details of the planned itinerary

Time wise as a cruise, not a delivery....by mid-June a circle route to Alaska working slowly South to Seattle allowing time for Weather, Glaciers and Fishing would eat up the remainder of those 5 months.
(I know as I've done it twice)
