UAE, Dubai - Where to buy a boat?

I'll be moving in Dubai on 1st of July.
I would like to buy something like a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 29.2
I found a few for sale in Greece and Italy. Buy I would be afraid to sail it back to Dubai with all the pirates in Somalia & Yemen.
What are the alternatives? From what I can see, there aren't many sailboats for sale in UAE (I'm looking on dubizzle, yacthworld & apolloduck). Maybe I'm not looking where I should, is there some different website?

Where else could I be looking for a boat to be able to get it to Dubai?
And which models?

Check in Doha, Qatar. Not too far away. There was a fairly active sailing club when I was last there.

There is nothing on yachtworld in Qatar. And Malayasia has a pretty poor selection. Are they advertised on another website?

Buy one in Europe and have it shipped ... 30' should be affordable to ship on deck of a commercial vessel

How much would it cost - could you give me an order of magnitude - just to make an idea
Because this would be a great option for me. There are many boats fitting my criteria in Greece\Italy.

Google is your friend, find some shipping companies and ask for a quote.

There are quite a few boats for sale in Thailand since that is a 'dead end' now for sailors, because of the pirate problems. We had friends who bought a huge catamaran in Thailand and shipped it further to the Med while saving LOTS of money doing this.

Good luck!

Hello,
I am from dubai,
there are not many sail boat for sale options but you can check a company called Duboats, they are the dealer for beneteau and eden yachting, they also sell used sail boats.
I had to buy mine new from Duboats.
Good luck,

Re: UAE, Dubai - Where to buy a boat?

Hello I lived in Dubai for many years, now live in Thailand. Further I had my 40’ 14 Ton 35 year old boat shipped out from the UK..Delivered to Singapore
1. There was never a big interest in Sail in the Gulf.
2. Malaysia / Thailand has become a stop…full stop, for a lot of boats. 5 marinas in Phuket all full, Krabi, Langkowie, must be over 50/60 boats for sale.
3. Seychelles a few ex-rentals every season.
4. Greece / Turkey, just now with the “Season” over many owners are putting their boats on the market.
In the shipping world, there is a convoy of vessels
They move the JCB’s, Cranes, Fire Engines, and 1,000’s of new cars around the world.
The move is all about height, if my old head servers me right its something like 3650cm on the trailer to be driven thru the loading door.
The Shipping lines have extra low profile trailer that they love to hire,(at a cost) your mast will go on it too. (Extra)
You need to get a set of Acro type mounting frames to prop you boat on trailer
Cost; The Port of embarkation: kiss goodbye to $3/4K, the shipping $10-20K depends on loads of stuff, length of passage, length / weight of your boat…now the biggie you must, repeat MUST get this one right, the port of dis-embarkation cost ! no one knows !!. But this is where you must find a good agent, there are one or two in the Sharjar industrial area along Maliha Road.
I brought hovercraft to Dubai in a container, no problem cost $1750.. Other imports have been weeks in customs and cost !
In your case I would estimate as the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 29.2 as it is only 27’ and with a modest 4’ draft I would budget £7-9k. Find a good one in the med £37K

BUT !

Re: UAE, Dubai - Where to buy a boat?

There was 3 boats for sale in Aden, Yemen when i was there a few months ago on my way delivering a FP cat..they're ranging between 32ft and 40ft they have been left behind.....dont think you gonna find a small boat in dubai..and if you do it will be at least 20% more expensive..getting it sailed over by a deliverycrew is far cheaper than having it shipped over..
