Teakdeck repair Thailand/Malaysia

I am planning to have repair work done on my teakdeck (caulking, replacing sections) in Thailand or Malaysia.
Can anyone advise me or has experience with boatyards in that area who can do this type of work? Equally important, I like to know which ones to avoid.

Thanks
Ben

Re: Teakdeck repair Thailand/Malaysia

Hi Ben,

There are a lot of contractors in Phuket capable of doing the work although prices over the years have been escalating as expats infiltrate as "managers". (it's a pet hate of mine)

We refurbished our decks whilst staying at Marina Island Pankor Malaysia. There is a good timber mill close that can provide the teak, although it is slightly more expensive than Thailand.

I would highly recommend using Fixtech product for the job. Talk to Troy the manager on the Gold Coast. He could supply what you need to bring with you as we did. Their system is so much better than 3M-Sika etc. and cheaper.

I bloged the refurb on our site. All the information you need is there.

I would suggest you employ a couple of locals to do the mundane tasks and supervise and instruct them yourself. You will end up with a great job with no shortcuts and it shouldn't cost the earth.

We have employed good workers in Thailand for around $35 a day.

I am currently reurbishing a damaged rub rail and have purchased 8mmx50mm teak machined for about $0.50 a foot. I'll post pictures on the website soon. This is the same teak we used in our aft cabin floor. We posted some photos earlier this year in the blog section of the website.

If you need anymore information you are more than welcome email us or skype us.

Say hi to Anya for us and let her know I haven't forgotten the graphic for Giggles. Just been busy.
