Seychelles to Maldives

Hope not to make this a loaded question as maybe grenade launchers would be more suitable.
Seychelles to Maldives to Thailand , is this a reasonably safe passage these days?
What is the best time of year?
Should you try sail in groups?
Is there anybody looking at this passage in 2014?
I will search some more , and also appreciate your feedback.
Cheers

Re: Seychelles to Maldives

if i remember correctly there are 2 times of year that you can get favourable winds.
nov-april if you stay just south of the equator with the nw monsoon.

or may-october north of the equator with the sw monsoon, this is the monsoon that large motorised dhows use to return to the persian gulf.
so more of a risk of meeting a mothership, though conditions are generally quite rough after june in the north indian ocean

Thanks Atoll,

Nov- April would be scary I think, as I will eventually head down to Aus and my home base of Cairns.
My ultimate dream thoughts were to maybe spend the cyclone season in Thai land, after making our way too , and spending as much time as possible in Seychelles/ Maldives and away from the Philippines , poor buggers.
So appears May / june / july would be prime time to set off from Seychelles.
I'm thinking , without much research, that a dew east passage from Seychelles / Maldives would be reasonably pirate safe passage and quite a pleasant sail. Best I do some real research. Thanks again. Cheers

june -july-august is the height of the SW monsoon and wind constantly blows at 35-40 knots,so is a very rough trip!

the NW monsoon is a much gentler trip, but you will have to motorsail a fair bit.

Re: Seychelles to Maldives

Has anyone sailed Seychelles to Chagos to the Maldives in January? It would be be a beat from Chagos to the
Maldives but not a difficult one?
What am I missing?

NW monsoon below the equator, NE above but very light due to latitude.
Cyclone season southern hemisphere but rarely, if ever gets to Chagos latitude?

Just looking at options.
