Durban Trashed By Storm

Freak storm hits southern africa, with high winds and hail storms inland causing widespread damage.

the port of durban received high winds that badly damaged the yacht club moorings, and sank many yachts.

in the port a container ship came adrift from the dock and blocked the entrance channel to the harbour.

Wow, the container ship hardly fits, crosswise! Too bad for the yacht club and those people's boats. Gosh.

there are many international yachts that use durban as a stop over on their way round the world at this time of year.
video uploaded by a local yottie today of the destruction in the marina.

the point yacht club ,where the marina pontoons are,are frequently exposed to 50knot winds when a south westerly buster comes through,so were built to withstand strong winds.

this particular storm must have had some 100+ knot winds, and was like a mini cyclone caused by a very small intense low it also dumped over 10cm of rain in a few hours that caused widespread flooding locally.

funny thing was that in brisbane, and hervey bay area australia ,that is about the same lattitude, but 8000miles away, they were at almost the same time having very similar weather with 140mm of rain in a few hours from an intense low.

so definitly a global trend, these freak 100 year storms
