Cruising in the Seychelles

Anyone curious about cruising the Seychelles?

I've been on 4 sailing holidays with my catamaran there the last 15 months and are getting to know the area quite well.

I also have several books and 2 pilots for the Seychelles.

I am looking for information on cruising Seychelles , I would like to buy a yacht in Seychelles and retire cruising the islands.Could you sugest way to look for boat , costs of GST and other duties , how long can I stay in Seychelles and any sailing routes from Mahe.

Considering the incidents of Somali piracy in that area in the past few years, I would consider it a no-go zone, at least for the time being.

since 2 years i am not there anymore and criminal incidents happen more and more. It seams that society is exploding in a bad way. So the 'chances' somebody of the seychellois is working together with pirates are getting higher. Means : don't tell your next plans to anybody. Seychelles are still a paradise in a nature sense. But never let your dinghy alone on a beach.

U can stand as long as u want on seychelles. If u can afford the fees.
First 2 weeks are free of charge, then they take something like 5 $ a day. Plus the fees for marina parks and so on.

TO ANYONE DECIDING TO SAIL IN SEYCHELLES, I AGREE THAT THERE ARE PIRATES ISSUES .IT SADDENS ME AS IAM A SEYCHELLOIS ,WE WERE QUIET AND MOST PROBABLY ONE OF THE SFEST SEA'S TO SAIL,BUT WHAT ARE THE COUNTRIES THAT HAVE POWER AND DOMINION DOING? IN THE ANCIENT TIMES THE CHARGES FOR PIRACY WAS PIRATES GOT HUNG! THERE WERE A REASON FOR THAT,EXCUSE ME BUT I DONT BELIEVE NOONE HAS THE RIGHT TO TAKE ANOTHER PERSON'S LIFE BUT IF IT HAS TO BE LIKE THAT SO BE IT!

Ouch... thats a rather harsh blanket statement... I'm pretty sure there are some folks who feel that way about the Caribbean... or Med for that matter..
Think I'll need to hear from a more varied source than one to be put off somewhere... and even then I'd likely wanna see for myself....

Whoa there - the question properly is - what is the sovereign government of the Seychelles doing to protect its territory and people?
- - I would be hesitant to suggest that the citizens/taxpayers of other countries are supposed to pay for the protection of the Seychelles . . .

The Seychelles government is doing about as much as they can given they're broke. They rely heavily on tourism which is being badly effected. They organise patrols and actually imprison the pirates they capture.
If foreign governments were half as aggressive it would be a huge step in the right direction... or even gave them the equipment, they'd actively hunt out the pirates in their area. Pity they don't have oil

Which begs the question - Why is the Seychelles government broke?
- - Where is their money going and what are their priorities about protecting their tourism income stream?
- - Used and obsolete patrol boats are frequently given to requesting small countries by the USA and other countries, if asked.
