Armed intervention vs Piracy

US commandos capture 4 suspected pirates in raid - Yahoo! News

Yep...the darn military just can't do anything right....always sitting on their hands when they should be doing something.

Good for them. I hope this represents new more aggressive Rules of Engagement.

Oh crap not again.. it's an intervention...

I wonder if these commandos are using the high-tech Intervention Sniper System.

In all seriousness, this is good news. It's nice to know that these training exercises are producing change.

A statement by the international anti-piracy task force says the 24 crew members on the MV Guanabara took refuge in a protected part of the vessel after reporting they were under attack Saturday.
This is the key point. The ship had a citadel. This seems to be the favorite way now of avoiding capture. The military can then move in secure in the knowledge that there are no hostages.

BTW, its not a sudden change of plan, there have been many armed interventions , where this type of citadel exists, mnay shipping companoes are modifying to fit them

Unfortunately doesnt work for yachts

Re: Armed intervention vs Piracy

It was my point to show some members that the military will do what it can...move quickly when the sitauation allows and sit tight and negotiate when the situation is impossible to do anything else.

To arbitrarily beat up on the military is not a good thing....while not perfect... it has a lot of other organizations beat hands down.
