Who is Heading to Qld or Further North this Winter?

We will be leaving end of May, the plan is head north and see how far we get. Maybe louisiades or further, maybe just to Lizard island. Any others from Sydney going?

Our friends from Pittwater and us from Lake Macquarie. Both of us leaving at the end of April, but we'll probably travel a lot slower than they. The plan is to go as far as Port Douglas and then make a plan from there.

We're not exactly from Sydney, and in fact are still in Tassie, but might well be going to FNQ in the winter. Or something else... who knows??

I just had a look at the price lists for a few marinas round the Whitsundays! Any suggestions for those of us who are on a budget?

Why yes: don't go into marinas! With some observations of the wx, one can always anchor in the Whitsunday area. We've been there a number of times over the years and have yet to spend a night in a marina there.

We will leave Pittwater around the middle of May, sailing north slowly to Cairns to leave for the Louisiades around the middle of July.

And we are not really from Sydney, but from California, though we could live in Sydney very easily!

I'm with Jim on this one, the quickest way to spend your cruising budget is on Marinas and 2nd quickest way is beer!

Glenn, it would help if you gave us the names of the boats! But really, we sailed from San Francisco in 1986, so our association with Cal is pretty outdated. Of course, we encounter other Yanks out here, and may well have met these chaps, whoever they are.

They are forecasting single digit temperatures down here in teh coming week, and that triggers our "head for the sun" instincts. As soon as we deal with an appointment on 11 April we'll be looking for weather to head north.

I think one of the boats may be Rutea, also with San Diego as their home port. While Tenaya's home port is San Diego, we purchased her in Europe and have never sailed to the USA.

Sorry, I should have mentioned the boat names. Hokule'a and Solstice both are Liberty 458's and lovely boats and hail from Renaldo Beach CA.

I love Hobart but it did end up getting way too cold for us!

We are not heading North this year but did the last Three. This year doing New Cal and Vanuatu. May come back around Cairns Oct-Nov.

Hi, we are leaving Brisbane / Noosa on 20 April going north via Darwin and further on to Bali on 'Say When' , 45' Simpson cat.
No mad rush trip , but want to be in Bali about 10 June.
