Re: What Happened to s/v Wavewalker ?

Hi Judy
That's wonderful - thanks. Have located and purchased the book from Bookdepository.co.uk. Can't wait to receive and read it - we certainly had an eventful voyage up through the Pacific Islands so will be keen to see how he depicts that. Thanks again, Ross

Schooner to the Southern Oceans is a great read, I fully recommend it. Gordon's website: www.gordoncook.co.uk

Re: What Happened to s/v Wavewalker ?

I sailed on the Wavewalker in 1988 from Papeete to the Tuomotos and to Rarotonga. I heard she later went down in a storm.

Re: What Happened to s/v Wavewalker ?

I was living in Fiji when Wavewalker got washed up on the beach at Plantation Island in a cyclone. She was refloated and taken to Neisau Marina (Lautoka) where she sank at the marina in shallow water and lay there for a while until she was put on the hard stand at the marina. A local guy (Richard Eyre) took on the task of restoring her and last time I saw her (Around 1994) she was back in the water anchored off Neisau Marina. There must be people in Fiji who know what happened after that - Richard still lives there and will have more to add to the story off Wavewalker. I always remember asking him about the engine and he said there was none - "Captain cook never had one so why should I" was his answer.

Re: What Happened to s/v Wavewalker ?

Hi Gordy

Thanks so much for getting back to me about Wavewalker! You might be interested to know that through posts on this thread I located Gordon and Mary Cook, have gotten back in touch with them and spent 6 days visiting in the UK this past summer!!! We had a wonderful reunion, I met their, now grown, children who were only 9 and 10 when I last saw them in Hawaii and their kids! Gordon filled me in on what happened to Wavewalker and is writing another book, a sequel to Schooner to the Southern Ocean, with the ongoing adventures after leaving HI. Should be published soon, I don't remember the name, however.

Re: What Happened to s/v Wavewalker ?

I also have a missing person in my life, someone who has been missing for far longer than I ever knew him. He is an essential part of my past as well so I have to find him too. So I have also been on a quest to find (XXXXXXX).

He has tried to contact me several times over the last 28 years. I have always refused to respond, fearful of what would happen if I did. But now is the right time. I have to find out if what I remember is the same as what he remembers and I need to find out if he is all right. I don't even know if he is alive although I somehow think I would know if he was dead. I don't know why but I am sure he is out there somewhere.

Re: What Happened to s/v Wavewalker ?

Suzanne Heywood has published a book called Wavewalker -Breaking Free, published in the last couple of months. It’s a great read. It details her ‘horrible’ experiences on Wavewalker. She ended up marrying a politician and she herself obtained degrees in something a rather. She too has been looking for the boat.
