Visa Requirements French Polynesia

I am currently in Honolulu leaving for the Marquesas/ Society Islands in April 2008. My boat, a 47ft Shuttleworth Catamaran, is British registered however I carry a South African passport. Apparently South African visitors require visas. To get one here is going to be a real mission. Has anybody had experience in acquiring a visa for French Polynesia from the USA - contact numbers, advice, addresses would be most helpful. Alternatively, it may be possible/ OK to get one on arrival at the island of entry - any comments from someone who has had experience with this would also be very helpful.

French Polynesia is an overseas territory of France. South Africans must obtain a valid visa for entry to French Polynesia.
