Typhoon Parma, also called "Pepeng" in the Philippines, is a huge storm and NASA's TRMM satellite sees it is already bringing more unwanted rains and gusty winds to the typhoon-weary and devastated Philippines. According to Reuters, early in the day on October 1, the Philippines’ chief weather forecaster characterized Parma as a category 4 typhoon with wind speeds of 95 knots (175 kilometers per hour), and predicted that the storm could become a category 5 typhoon by October 3. According to a report from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center several hours later (15:00 UTC, 11:00 p.m. Manila time), the storm had encountered dry air associated with an upper-level anticyclone and had weakened somewhat. At the time of that bulletin, however, Typhoon Parma remained a powerful storm, with wind speeds of 120 knots (220 kilometers per hour) and gusts up to 145 knots (270 kilometers per hour). Originally forecast to hit the northern Philippine province of Aurora on Saturday morning, Parma is now predicted to make landfall on Saturday afternoon

Parma was a near miss to an already flooded central Luzon struggling to unclog their drains.

This Typhoon bears watching as it is interacting with another Typhoon and the High pressure system, so its steering influences will hold it almost stationary just off the west coast and a few expect it will drift and build.

Just talked to my brother-in-law in Teguegarao. He lost most the roof off his house and several other houses completely lost theirs. I warned him two days ago that it was coming and his reply was the Lady of Piat will hold his hand

I love the Philippines and the Filipinos, but I get so frustrated in their childlike belief that god is watching over them and will protect.

It is like the very worst of Catholicism and “Magical Thinking”, have collided inside their psyche….. to keep them in a state of apathy and prayer.

Having said that, I am also amazed at how quickly the Filipino will rebuild his roof, pick up their tattered remains and excel in karaoke, while thanking god for some perceived silver lining…. that surrounds their cloudy beliefs.

Sometimes I envy them.

They are a well spirited people considering all the Hell and poverty they go thru. They are wiling to go that extra mile for their family and people and still keep a broad smile.
