Time planning, Pacific

Hello folks, wondering if anyone know the best time for cruising the Pacific. I have my boat in Panama, and want to sail out into the Pacific, think i want to end up in New Zealand. Thanks in advance.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Micke.

Boats departing from the West Coast of the Americas, heading to French Polynesia, generally depart any time between late February and early June.

Hi! We did this route last year. We left Panama in March. Galapagos, 10 days; French Polynesia for 90 days; Niue for 10 days; Tonga for 30 days; Fiji for 6 weeks; NZ by the end of November. Very common route and timeframe.

Plan to leave Panama with the last NE'er in march or april. This gives you until late Nov. Or early Dec. to get to NZ. Plenty of time. Plan to spend most of your time in French Polynesia as you can return to the remaining S. Pacific from NZ during ensuing southern winters.

Re: Time planning, Pacific

Leave Pamana any day in March. Leave Marquesas any day after 1 May. Arrive in NZ or Australia south of Bundaberg by 1 December. Head north again any day after 1 May.

Cyclone season is December - April.
