Tide Tables for South Pacific

Hey All

We are looking to get tide tables for the SP Islands. Have tried to find an almanac for the area(to buy online), no luck as yet.

Have searched here and also looked for printable options online butno joy yet.

Any one got any ideas?????

Please bear with me as I am not so hot on the search the internet thing...always spend hours looking for stuff that other people find in minutes

PS Obviously I have found the online daily tide times but we are required to carry actual tide tables for our clearance inspection. Tx

seems to have a good collection of tides for this area. Otherwise just ask anybody to fax or email you relevant table page from the nearest harbour and you are set.

Go to WXTide32 - Tides and Currents for Win9x/NT it's a neat little program and download all the map add ons too. It's a good global database that does tides almost everywhere. South Pacific included. It's free and uses the best model there really is for a global prediction. I've used for years and find it agrees with any other source I've ever found.

I was able to run it on a pocket PC as well as a desktop. You can print tide tables for anyplace and any date, setup a time clock for any place and leave it running.

Alas, but I believe that the current version of WXtide no longer uses the Brit Admiralty harmonic constants to calculate the tides in many of the SP island nations. Those stingy buggers wanted the author of this excellent free program to pay stiff royalties for the use of that info. So now, at least for the island groups we frequent (New Cal, Vanuatu and Solomons) the predictions are referred to Yokahama, and in short, are not usable... way off in both time and magnitude. It still works well in Oz, though, and doubtless many other places.

I think that tidal downloads are available for New Cal via their Met Bureau website (also good forecasts, albeit in French).

Just checked, and I find that the Sollies are OK in WXTide. NCal and Vanuatu are still NFG, with data referred to Yokahama.

Remember I have shaken brain syndrome. I will have to bookmark all these suggestions and try to digest when I am functioning better lol. Or get the boss to read this thru when he is home sometime, he has the brains. Not sure what I bring to the equation yet lol. Brawn????

The French software mentioned #2 uses WXTide data (along some with other sources) - but I am not sure what is included re. the Admiralty harmonics.

In any location you can guess your tide by judging where the moon is. You will not know the range though before you are in a place for at least 12 hours. In fact, we hardly ever needed tide tables in SP. I can only remember 1 such place in Cooks.

Tried to open the downloaded program and came up with a virus (dial32) I think I will give it a miss.

WXTide32 - Tides and Currents for Win9x/NT downloaded this file and tried to open it. Stopzilla blocked it and identified the virus dial32 as a dialer type virus with a severity level as high.

For us it is legal requirement to carry the tables onboard in order to get our cat 1 certificate to leave the country.

otherwise why bother just look it up online as req etc etc

If that be the case then I would think a marine supplier in NZ would/should have tide tables for sale.
